When Buying a Franchise Please Take Some Advice From Sun Tzu

franchiseSun Tzu, the famous warrior and military philosopher from Asia had a lot of good advice for those involved in the battle and the war. For many, these tactics work in the business, and maybe that’s why so many people have written books, and used his words of wisdom to help entrepreneurs and businessmen.

A famous quote from Sun Tzu goes something like this, and I’m sorry if I did not exactly correct for the translation, “know yourself and your enemy will triumph, and in 100 battles.” Okay so this is a pretty good quote is not true, and does not much sense. Now, if you have a few minutes I will address the first part of that quote, without your car. And, I would like to discuss how this relates to the franchise, and how to use this philosophy to determine if you need to buy a franchise. In particular I want to talk;

1. Self-assessment
2. Personality Tests
3. Able to take directions
4. Along with the staff of the franchisor
5. Size Up the Competition studies and

You see, the franchise is not for everyone, and it takes a bit of consciousness, and self-evaluation to determine if it is good for you, and if it’s good for your family, remember they are part of your team also. You should be able to take guidance from the franchisor. If you are a person who always had trouble in the classroom in high school and college, this can not be good for you. If you have problems with the direction of the coach in the sport, the franchise is not a place you can bet, especially if you are an affiliate.

This is because the franchise system is a specific type of business, and have a confidential operations manual, you should follow. The franchisor has made mistakes in business, and have a good way of doing things. You must comply with the procedures because they are very protective of their brand, and they want their products and services are offered in a consistent manner to ensure that customers will see them all in a good light.

Now, you may want the franchisor to meet people and make sure you get along with them. They will be able to dictate how you run your business, and if you can not order from them, you should not buy the franchise. Finally, and this is the second part of the quote from Sun Tzu, “Know Your Enemy” and we can replace the word enemy, with the competition. Before buying a franchise, make sure that you understand that competition in the market will have to compete against.

So if you have the right attitude, and you can franchisor business plan to follow, and if you think you can compete with other companies that sell similar products and services in your area, you should go for it. Otherwise, you need something else to do. I hope things simple, and you take this into account and think about.
